R.A.D. Class

The Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The R.A.D. System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. is not a Martial Arts program. Our courses are taught by nationally certified R.A.D. Instructors and provide each student with a workbook/reference manual. This manual outlines the entire Physical Defense Program for reference and continuous personal growth, and is the key to our free lifetime return and practice policy for R.A.D. graduates.

The R.A.D. course is taught on Tuesday nights at the Public Safety Building on Campus for four consecutive weeks. General safety aspects are taught to each student, including how to recognize warning signs of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and unwanted physical or emotional behavior. Students have the opportunity to ask questions that will be answered by our instructor police officers, and we will debrief potential situations that could arise. Developing a survival mindset is a main focus of the program. From there, we transition into learning hands on skills that will be utilized for defense training, and how to escape uncomfortable situations.

The R.A.D. program is a very empowering experience for women, and there is an added benefit of taking the class with a friend, or family member. Mother and daughter combos are great to have enroll in the program together. Any female age 12 and up may be enrolled as long as they are accompanied by an adult female taking the course, and a parent/guardian will sign a parental consent form.  Adult content is discussed in the program, such as sexual assault, so it is recommended for parents to have those conversations with their child prior to enrollment to gauge their maturity level for the course.

The R.A.D. course will be offered 4-5 times each calendar year. Cost of the R.A.D. course is just $25 per attendee, and includes a lifetime return policy. All courses are taught at the new Public Safety Building (#202) located at 1658 East 500 South Salt Lake City, Utah 84112. Any questions, please reach out to Lieutenant Ryan Speers.
